Planning Dasara 2026? Explore Kudroli’s Navadurga, Uchila Mahalaxmi, Kateel and Polali temples, with EWA villas in Mangalore and Udupi.
Dasara on the Karnataka coast is a temple-led festival, not just a procession. Mangalore has Kudroli’s Navadurga and Sharada idols, and Udupi has Uchila Mahalaxmi and Sri Krishna Matha. Navaratri 2026 begins on 11 October, with Vijayadashami around 20 October. EWA’s villas in Mangalore and Udupi put you a short drive from each temple.
Mysuru’s Jamboo Savari and palace lights are worth seeing. But a Mysore-only trip usually means heavy crowds, long queues, and stays that fill up early.
Dasara on the coast is more devotional and personal. Temples hold nine days of special pujas, distances are short, and you can visit several shrines in a day and end the evening by the sea or at a pool.
Mangaluru Dasara is centred on the Sri Gokarnanatheshwara Temple at Kudroli, consecrated by the reformer Sree Narayana Guru. During Navaratri, Navadurga idols are worshipped along with Ganesha and Goddess Sharada, and devotees queue for darshan. On Vijayadashami, a procession leaves from the temple.
The Mangaladevi Temple, which gave the city its name, also holds special Navaratri pujas.
Dakshina Kannada: Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple and Polali Sri Rajarajeshwari Temple both hold special Navaratri pujas, and they sit close together on a single temple circuit.
Udupi district: Sri Krishna Matha holds daily worship during Navaratri. Uchila Mahalaxmi Temple has hosted a public Sharada Mahotsava in past years, and Kollur and Mandarthi also mark the festival.
Day 1, Mangalore city: Visit Mangaladevi in the morning and Kudroli in the evening. Stay at Artisan Relic.
Day 2, Kateel and Polali: Visit both temples, then relax at Cloud Cove Vista or Kopparige Hills.
Day 3, Udupi: Visit Uchila Mahalaxmi, then Sri Krishna Matha, and watch the sunset at Malpe Beach. Stay at Deja Blu, Seascape, Samudra or SJS Villa.
If you are here on Vijayadashami, plan your evening around the Kudroli procession.
